Hoffman Estates has remained true to its motto: “Growing to greatness.” This Cook County village continues to grow economically, as well as in population and physical size.
Hoffman Estates used to be agricultural land until the 1950s when Jack Hoffman of Father & Son Construction moved here to expand their business to the Chicago area. Further growth was seen in 1959 when the Northwest Tollway opened and the village was incorporated as part of Cook County.
Today, Hoffman Estates is one of the fastest growing suburbs northwest of Chicago. With a 40-minute proximity and easy access to the Windy City, many of those who work in the city have chosen this village as their home. Some of the large corporations that have moved their headquarters here are now providing residents job and business opportunities right within the community.
Throughout its success story, Hoffman Estates has retained much of the peaceful rural vibe that has made it very family friendly. The village was ranked 27th in Time’s Money Magazines’ 2016 list of the Top 50 Places to live in the United States. Cited were its excellent schools, population diversity, and attractions and amenities. Hoffman Estates is served by School District 54, the largest school district in Illinois outside of Chicago.
Around a third or 4,080 acres of the total size of the village are forest preserves, giving residents plenty of opportunities for nature activities. In addition to this, the community boasts excellent amenities, including the 10,000-square-foot Prairie Stone Sports and Wellness Center. The village has numerous shopping and dining venues, as well as first-rate destinations like the 12-acre Sears Centre Arena, and plenty of historic and cultural attractions.
